Alan R. Kirkwood

Alan R. Kirkwood, 48, Grain Valley, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004 at his home.

Mr. Kirkwood was born Aug. 21, 1955 in Independence to Richard R. and Myrtle (Smith) Kirkwood. He was a Navy veteran and served during the Vietnam War. He was also employed at Kansas City Power and Light for more than 27 years. He loved working with wood and had a passion for sports. Kirkwood was a member of IBEW Local No. 412 as well as the Nazarene Church.

He is preceded in death by his father, Richard K. Kirkwood and sister, Jean Kirkwood.

His survivors include his wife, Cynthia, of the home; step-children, Jeffery T. Dennis, Lawrence, Kan. and Giner M. Dennis, Tonganoxie, Kan. and his mother, Myrtle Kirkwood, Independence.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2004 at Blue Springs Church of the Nazarene. A "Celebration of Life" in honor of Kirkwood will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004 at Mt. Washington Forever Funeral Home in Independence. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Kansas City Hospice, 9221 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, Mo. 64114 or Countryside Church of the Nazarene, Columbus, Mo.
